5 New Movies to Look Forward to in February 2018

February Has a Lot of Bad and a Lot of Good New Movies!

Well, we’ve managed to make it through January and the best part is that the world didn’t end and there were one or two pretty decent movies that made their way to theaters. February though is a mixed bags with movies like 50 Shades Freed and Samson waiting to ambush audiences. Not to worry though, because there are actually a few new movies that look like they might be worth the price of admission. In fact, two of them were on my list of the most anticipated new movies of 2018. So, here are five flicks you can (hopefully) look forward to in February. Though I’m not sure any of the films on here are going to good picks for Valentine’s Day. You’re probably on your own for that one.

Game Night– February 23rd, 2018

I’m not going to lie, the trailer for this one left me smiling. Now, I can guarantee that this probably isn’t going to be a “good” movie. However, I’m pretty sure that it’s going to be a worthwhile comedy with plenty of popcorn potential. After making it through Oscar season in the theaters, it’s going to be nice to have a film that I can turn my brain off for and enjoy the stupidity unfolding on screen. The only reason I’m a bit hesitant is that Jason Bateman movies are so hit or miss. When they hit, they hit hard. When they miss? Well, you rethink seeing future Jason Bateman movies.

Winchester– February 2nd, 2018

If you’re like me then you enjoy trashy horror movies from time to time. The Winchester though has the benefit of Helen Mirren in a starring role, which is a bit strange because you don’t normally see Academy Award-winning actors in too many horror films. Then again, she’s been known to enjoy taking on roles from time to time that wouldn’t be considered prestigious (Just check her out in RED). Plus, the fact that it’s based on the true story of the Winchester Mansion makes it seem like the perfect haunted house flick. While I have no idea if it’s going to be good, but I’m hoping that it’s better than the first horror movie we got this year.

Early Man– February 16th, 2018

If you’re a fan of the Wallace & Gromit films than this is a new movie you will definitely be excited about. Director Nick Park returns to claymation to bring us a story about the last of the cavemen forced to do battle with the encroaching bronze age. It’s a movie that the whole family can enjoy and one of the first kid’s films of the year I’m not dreading. Considering the cast attached to the movie, I would even go so far as to say I’m looking forward to it. The likes of Tom Hiddleston, Maisie Williams, and Richard Ayoade, lend their voices to the characters which hits pretty much every fan base across the internet.

Annihilation– February 23rd, 2018

Natalie Portman stars in this science fiction film based on the bestselling novel. While I’m still not entirely sure what’s going on in the trailers, you can bet I’m going to be there opening night to find out. Plus with Alex Garland writing and directing, I can guarantee this is going to mess with your mind in all the right way (he was the guy behind Ex Machina). My money is that this movie is going to tackle evolution in such a way that will give us all a healthy existential crisis over the purpose of man, and all those other lovely questions that keep us up at night. I love a good thought provoking science fiction film, and after Blade Runner 2049 I’m ready for another one!

Black Panther– February 16th, 2018

Here it is folks, the movie that many of us have all been waiting for. Everyone I know is psyched for this, which has me a little nervous. “Why” you ask? Well, because if it’s not the best superhero movie in years there will literally be nerds rioting in the streets, and if you’ve ever been to a comic convention you know how bad that can get. Still, I’m still really optimistic about this one since Marvel knows what’s riding on it. Plus, it’s going to get us prepared for Avengers: Infinity War which is going to be one of the biggest movies in years. If you haven’t gotten your tickets yet, you might be out of luck, since pre-sales for this film have been off the charts. Let’s hope that Black Panther manages to live up to the hype.

There are my picks for the five new movies you should be excited for in February. Let me know if the comments which of them you want to see the most, and if there are any other movies you’re excited about. We’ll see if any of the life up to expectations, so be sure to check back for the reviews as they come out!
