The Best Series to Binge Watch Before Halloween

Updated for 2018: Looking to Get your Binge Watch On? Here are the Best Series for Halloween!

Halloween is right around the corner and while many of you might be dressing up as sexy a whatever to go party, many will be staying home and eating the candy that’s supposed to go to trick or treaters. Of course, there are plenty of scary movies to stream online, but what about those of you who want something binge-worthy? Well, fear not! Because I’ve managed to compile a list of the best series for you to binge during this frightful season, and all of them are on Netflix, Hulu or Amazon Prime. I’m sure you’ve all heard of the obvious choices like The Walking Dead, American Horror StoryStranger Things or even my personal favorite, Supernatural. So, I wanted to try to find a few lesser known series the horror genre has to offer. There’s a wide variety ranging from monsters to vampires to slashers. If you’re looking to get your fright on this Halloween, then these are the best series you can get!

7. Ghoul (Netflix)

best series
So wait, torture is bad and has repercussions that echo through society? Who knew?

I recently got the chance to watch this Indian series that showed up on Netflix and I was more than a little impressed with it. The show revolves around an “Interrogation Center” (AKA torture chamber) run by the government as it tries to clamp down on religions it deems as detrimental to the state (in other words this government is super anti-Muslim). Unfortunately for the interrogators in the center, no sin goes unpunished as they find themselves trapped inside being hunted down by a creature who uses their guilt against them. It’s a fresh-faced premise with a dash of social commentary and a ton of blood. Ghoul manages to be nightmarish without being overly gratuitous. Best of all, it’s only 3 episodes long, so you can knock it all out in one night! I would suggest having a friend over to watch it though.

6. Scream (Netflix)

best series
Now this guy is a scary slasher.

When I was growing up MTV was known for music videos and reality TV shows, so I’m as shocked as you are that one of it’s shows made it onto a list of best series to stream. However, Scream offers everything that people love about slasher movies. It’s got clueless teens who find themselves being picked off by a killer with a vendetta, an incompetent police force, and plenty of blood. While it’s based on the movie franchise, I have to admit that I’m pretty fond of the revamp they did on the killers look. Definitely less satirical and scarier. Fortunately for fans of the first season (which I recommended last year), a second season has also been added to Netflix line up giving you a chance to watch this series well into the wee hours of the morning.

5. Lore (Prime)

best series
Come for the horror. Stay for the Robert Patrick side burns.

Scary stories are all well and good, but do you ever wonder where all these terrifying tales come from? Lore is a series that dives into the rich history behind the myths that have been a cornerstone of the horror genre. It explores everything from specific hauntings to legends behind things like vampires. If you’re more of a history buff than this is definitely a series you’ll want to check out. For those of you who have already caught the first season of Lore, don’t worry because the second season is dropping October 19th, which means plenty of new scary stories to keep you up at night just in time for Halloween. This might be different from the other entries on this list, but that doesn’t mean it still isn’t one of the best series out there when it comes to horror.

4. Slasher (Netflix)

best series
Trick or Treat!

I actually just discovered this show a few days ago and I’m already on season two. Honestly, I had no idea that Canadians could be so brutal because this is a show that is not for those with a weak stomach. If you like a lot of blood though then this is probably the best series on this list for you. From what I can tell, each season is its own murder mystery with a new cast, new killer, and new location. A common theme though is that some tragedy from the past manages to come back to haunt everyone close to it. It’s slow going at first, but definitely, one that sucks you in. Plus with only eight episodes per season, it’s really easy to get through. To make things even better the seasons really have nothing to do with each other, so you won’t be lost if you skip the first season.
