The Top 10 Coolest Movie Spaceships

5. Heart of Gold- Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy

spaceships
It’s a great ship, but the warranty on the Improbability Drive is awful.

For fans of classic sci-fi The Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy is one of the most beloved stories of all time. It’s a bit of an absurdist tale, but it’s filled with thought-provoking philosophy on life, death, and the meaning of life (it’s 42 by the way). That’s why I had to include the Heart of Gold, a spaceship that uses an Infinite Improbability Drive to bounce around the universe in search of adventure. If that wasn’t cool enough, it also comes with the ever so depressing android Marvin (voiced by Alan Rickman in the film). It’s a goofy looking spaceship, but I have to give it credit for originality. Besides who wouldn’t want a chance to experience infinite improbabilities? Whatever that means.

4. The Milano- Guardians of the Galaxy

spaceships
Marvel even makes good spaceships these days.

Let’s face it, no matter how pissed fans might be at Star Lord for what he pulled in Infinity War, he’s got style. The Milano is the spaceship version of a classic muscle car with an awesome orange and blue paint job. Not only does it look pretty sweet, but it can handle itself in a fight, which is great because the Guardians certainly find themselves in plenty of those. When they find themselves outgunned they can usually outrun whatever might be after them. The only downside is that Rocket and Star Lord can never seem to agree on who’s driving. That’s hardly the Milano’s fault though and of all the spaceships on this list, it’s definitely the best-looking one.

3. The Serenity- Serenity

spaceships
Like a leaf on the wind.

We’re getting down to the top three spaceships, which means this is where different fandoms start to get outraged by the order. While most people might remember The Serenity from the ill-fated Fox series Firefly, it eventually got a chance to shine on the big screen in, well, Serenity. The ship is a Firefly-Class transport ship that’s mostly used for smuggling and rabble-rousing thanks to a crew that is very much like any other family. Meaning that they squabble constantly and sometimes try to kill each other. While I was never a huge fan of the series, I have to admit that The Serenity is iconic for a reason and certainly stands out from the rest.

2. USS Enterprise- Star Trek

spaceships
If you gotta boldly go where no one’s gone before, you might want to do it in style.

Another ship that got its debut on the small screen, The Enterprise is one of the most iconic spaceships in the history of cinema. It’s quest to boldly go where no one has gone before sent it on many epic adventures. It’s seen its fair share of remodels over the years with the initial ship being the NCC-1701 (they kept adding letters to the end of it until it got up to a model E in the films) and has had its fair share of Captains as well. While the debate on who the better Captain continues to rage on among nerds at conventions, there’s no arguing that when it comes to spaceships the USS Enterprise is one of the best of the best. Of course, it’s not quite as cool as the number one ship on this list…

1. Millenium Falcon- Star Wars

spaceships
It’s a classic.

Sorry Firefly and Star Trek fans, but the Millenium Falcon is the coolest movie spaceship of all time. The thing is so cool that it made the Kessel Run in “less than twelve parsecs.” Of course, any nerd worth his mettle will tell you that a parsec is a unit of distance, not time. Well, you can now shove that nerd back in his locker, because the Falcon made the run in a shorter distance than any other ship by traveling dangerously close to a black hole. It also features a pilot that is often imitated but never duplicated, Han Solo. Plus, with the new Solo: A Star Wars Story fans finally get to see that fabled Kessel Run. Even if they don’t the Falcon feels like one of the backbones of the Star Wars universe and as sad as Han’s death might have been, the day this bad boy goes down is going to be the saddest moment in the franchise.

There you have it, the 10 Coolest Movie Spaceships. With how often Hollywood comes out with new and exciting sci-fi movies (and the fact that Star Wars is now an annual event) it’s probably a list that will see plenty of updates in the future. Until then be sure to leave a comment below about which of the ships is your favorite and which ships you wish could have made the list. Until next time, stay frosty and always check for cops before hitting light speed.
