10 Upcoming Movies to Get Excited About in 2018
5. Ready Player One
As big as Pacific Rim Uprising looks, Ready Player One takes the cake as the sci-fi film I’m most excited for of the upcoming movies. Steven Spielberg is returning to the blockbuster genre after a slew of drama and I couldn’t be more excited. If that wasn’t enough, it looks like the movie is going to be a trip down memory lane for most people my age with plenty of references to 80’s pop culture and gaming. The fact that the majority of it occurs in virtual reality means that there’s no telling what we’re going to see. Now writer Zac Penn has made some mistakes in the past (Elektra and X-Men: The Last Stand), but with Spielberg on board there is little doubt that this adaptation is in capable hands.
4. Black Panther
Last year Wonder Woman proved that audiences really want female-led action films and will support superheroines. Now it’s time for us to get a black hero on the big screen. I don’t know much about Black Panther from the comics, but his introduction in Captain America: Civil War proved that he is a force to be reckoned with. The fact that this movie is coming out as a prelude to Marvel’s main event this year means that it will definitely be a must-see. The only problem I have is that it looks like it might have the same villain problem Marvel has gained a reputation for, but that’s just going to have to be something I wait to see for myself.
3. Incredibles 2
There’s been a demand for a sequel to The Incredibles ever since the first one proved to be on of Pixar’s most beloved films. Luckily for us, it looks like that’s going to be one of the upcoming movies for 2018. That’s right, our favorite big-screen superhero family is back (don’t even think about bringing up the Fantastic Four) and director Brad Bird is coming with them. All that’s really known about the sequel is that Mr. Incredible is left to care for the baby while Elasti-girl (woman?) is out saving the world. Five bucks say this is going to be a movie about challenging traditional gender roles in child-rearing.
2. Avenger Infinity War
The big event for 2018 is the Marvel movie that’s marking the end of an era. Phase Three is coming to an end and rumor has it that not all our favorite heroes will make it into phase four. Plus, that big purple guy with an affinity for floating recliners is finally going to get up and do something! We’ve been waiting to see more than a pretty smile from him since The Avengers, and from what Kevin Feige says, he is going to be doing a lot more than smiling. The movie looks like it’s going to be absolutely huge with more heroes than you can shake a stick at. I guarantee that we’ll laugh, we’ll cry, and we’ll probably get into a lot of internet arguments.
1. Deadpool 2
That’s right of all the upcoming movies, the Deadpool sequel is the one to look forward to the most. Ryan Reynolds is returning with T.J. Miller and Morena Baccarin, along with the writers responsible for the first one. I know you’re thinking, how could this movie possibly be better than the last one? Well, how about we toss in one of the guys who helped make John Wick real? Director David Leitch is known for his stunt work but has already proven that he can give us everything we want from Deadpool with the teaser trailer above. So, while the future might be certain, I’ll stake my film critic badge on Deadpool 2 being one of the best movies of 2018.
There you have it, 10 upcoming movies to get you excited for 2018. There are a ton of other great films spread out over the year, like The Happytime Murders and Bohemian Rhapsody, but these ones are probably the safe bets to look forward to.
