5 New Movies to Look Forward to in March 2018
It’s time to get excited because March means that we’re going to start getting some of the new movies we’re really looking forward too! This month we’ve got a ton of different kinds of new movies coming to theaters and to be honest, most of the look pretty good. In fact, it was difficult to narrow it down to just 5 to get excited about. With films like A Wrinkle in Time, I Kill Giants, and Gringo to name a few, this is one month that I’m glad I’m a film critic. Of course, there are a few stinkers lurking out there, like Sherlock Gnomes and The Hurricane Heist, but every up needs its downs. Last month’s picks were pretty spot on for the most part, so I’m feeling good about the 5 I narrowed it down to. So, here are the 5 new movies to look forward in March 2018.
The Strangers: Prey at Night– March 9th, 2018
I’m taking a bit of a risk on this one. After all, my pick of Winchester in February fell flat and the Insidious movie in January was pretty awful. I’m just really hoping to get a good horror movie early on in the year and I think The Strangers sequel could deliver. The first movie was pretty intense and proved to be an edge of your seat thriller. While it might not have the same director, Johannes Roberts caught my attention with 47 Meters Down last year (and to a lesser extent with The Other Side of the Door). Here’s hoping he can capture the spirit of the original while still taking things to the next level. Needless to say, I’m cautiously optimistic about this one.
Tomb Raider– March 16th, 2018
For the most part, video game movies suck! In fact, for every tolerable one, there are about 5 abominations. I’m keeping my fingers crossed though that Oscar Award winner Alicia Vikander can carry the film where it needs to go. Plus the director’s name is literally Roar, so I’m ready to see what this guy has to offer. Besides, it’s about time we got a good video game movie and I don’t think Rampage is going to be able to do that. I’m not overly familiar with the Tomb Raider video games, but I’ve heard good things about the more recent ones and it looks like this film is going to be following them fairly closely.
Isle of Dogs– March 23rd, 2018
This might shock you all, but I’m not one of those film grads who is obsessed with Wes Anderson. In fact, I only like a few of his films. However, the Fantastic Mr. Fox is one of those films and that means I’m excited what his returns to claymation will bring us. Honestly, I feel his auteur style is better suited for animation. Plus, his films always manage to have incredible casts and Isle of Dogs looks like it’s going to be no exception. It’s filled with stars like Bryan Cranston, Jeff Goldblum, Edward Norton, and a ton more. Of all the new movies coming out in March, this is the one I can pretty much guarantee will be a good one.
Pacific Rim: Uprising– March 23rd, 2018
Another movie from my list of 10 Upcoming Movies to Get Excited About in 2018 is hitting theaters and I couldn’t be more excited. I was a big fan of the first Pacific Rim (what self-respecting geek doesn’t love watching giant monsters fight giant robots?) and while Benicio del Toro might not be directing this sequel, I think it’s in solid hands. After all, this will be the first film that John Boyega is producing and I have a lot of faith that he’ll do right by his fellow geeks. Plus, the new trailer for the movie looks pretty incredible. I might be getting my hopes up with this one, but that’s not going to stop me from seeing it with 3D glasses and a tub of popcorn.
Ready Player One– March 30th, 2018
There are a lot of people out there that love the novel Ready Player One. While I haven’t finished reading it yet, I am excited to see Steven Spielberg return to blockbusters after so many serious dramas. Don’t get me wrong, The Post was great, but I’m ready to see something a little more Jaws and Jurassic Park from him. Plus, with Ready Player One’s obsession with the 80’s he’s probably the perfect director for the movie. While the book can be a bit heavy-handed in certain parts, I can guarantee that this is going to be one of the more visually stunning films of the year, and that’s a good enough reason for me to be excited about it.
Honorary Mention:
