5 New Movies to Look Forward to In March 2020
March Brings Both Spring and a Lot of Cool New Movies!
Theaters are starting to kick things into high gear and it looks like March will be chaulked full of good looking new movies. We’ve got comic book movies, a live-action Disney movie, and a movie on my list of 10 Upcoming New Movies to Get Excited About in 2020. I’m honestly really excited about a few of these films (especially one that got Donald Trump’s panties in a twist last year). I know movie tickets are crazy expensive these days but don’t worry, because I took a look ahead and came up with a list of the 5 best looking new movies coming out. As always, I’ll be seeing and reviewing all these new movies, so make sure you check out Stars & Popcorn before you head off to theaters. Until then, let me know which movies you’re excited about in the comments below and I’ll prioritize those ones for reviews.
Onward- March 6th
Fact: Pixar makes good movies. Fact: I’m a huge geek. So, Pixar making a movie about elves, magic, and biker pixies, had me giddy with anticipation. I actually had a chance to see this film before March and can totally vouch for it. Chris Pratt and Tom Holland star as two elf brothers that go off on a quest in order to see their deceased father one last time. The two have proven to have plenty of chemistry together in the past and bring it to bear along with their past experience as voice actors. It goes without saying, but since Onward is a Pixar movie, it will definitely be nominated for an Academy Award this year, and I wholeheartedly believe that it deserves it. Onward is the one movie this month that you don’t want to miss.
Bloodshot– March 13th
When it comes to comic book movies, the MCU and the DCEU pretty much dominate the market. They aren’t the only comic book companies out there though, which is why it’s refreshing to see Bloodshot heading to theaters. I’ve never read any of the issues of the Valiant comic, but from what I understand the guy is pretty serious business. Apparently, he’s a former Special Forces soldier filled with nanomachines that give him a healing factor that makes him pretty much immortal as well as super strength. Fellow geek and comic movie veteran Vin Diesel is taking on the role and looks like he’s pretty badass in the trailer. I’ll admit that Bloodshot looks like a movie that’s going to be more fun than good, but there’s nothing wrong with that.
The Hunt– March 13th
Honestly, my excitement for The Hunt is tied up in the fact that it looks like a perverse modern take on The Deadliest Game filled with commentary on the way the 1% treats the rest of the world. However, I’d go see it just because of how much it pissed Donald Trump off last year. No one has seen it, but the orange goblin in the White House swears that The Hunt is going to cause some kind of class war. Personally, I don’t mind a bunch of rich bastards sweating in terror as they pray the “unwashed masses” don’t realize just how monstrous they are. That’s just the cherry on top though since I’m really just excited to see if this film lives up to all the hype of how twisted it is.
A Quiet Place II– March 20th
I was shocked at just how good A Quiet Place was since the trailer made it look a little cheesy. It was so good that Hollywood immediately twisted John Krasinski’s arm until he agreed to make a sequel. I’m not mad about it though since it looks like he came up with a legitimately good idea for a sequel. This film appears to follow the remaining members of the family as they try to find a way to survive the alien-infested wasteland that is Earth. The trailer shows them running into some other survivors that they join forces with in hopes of not getting totally eaten by monsters. Sequels aren’t always as good as the originals, especially when it comes to horror movies, but I’m hoping that A Quiet Place II will be another pleasant surprise.
Mulan– March 27th
Disney live-action remakes aren’t my favorite things in the world, but I’ve actually got a good feeling about Mulan. The classic tale of the warrior maiden who poses as a man to join the army and save all of China is pretty kick-ass and this new version looks like it’s going to have a lot of wire-fu in it as well. On top of that, it also appears to embrace some classic kung-fu mythology by adding a white-haired witch with shapeshifting abilities to the story. Of course, it’s pretty lame that Li Shang was dropped from the film because it was “uncomfortable” that he was her love interest and her superior officer. Yeah, I rolled my eyes and sighed when I read that too. Still, I’m actually looking forward to seeing how this Disney live-action remake turns out.
There are definitely some other new movies hitting theaters in March that look pretty good, but those 5 are the ones I’m looking forward to the most. I’d love to hear which films you’re excited about in the comments below too. As always, I’ll be seeing and reviewing as many movies as I can over the course of the month. So, make sure you check back before heading off to theaters to find out which movies are worth the price of admission.
