5 New Movies to Look Forward to In April 2018
Welcome to April, fans. There have been a lot of new movies so far this year, but the first few months were just testing the water when it comes to cinema. Sure, we’ve had some great films like Love Simon, Black Panther, and Thoroughbreds, but we aren’t even close to done yet. April looks to be a pretty spiffy month for new movies too. While the past two months have been a bit hit or miss when it comes to the films I’ve been most excited for. I think that Hollywood has definitely hit a few nails on the head. So, before you decide to race out to the theater and throw your hard earned cash at that pimply faced usher, take a few minutes to look over the 5 new movies I think will be worth seeing this upcoming month. There are definitely a wide variety of choices from superhero flicks to raunchy comedies to some truly disturbing looking films. Needless to say, there’s sure to be something for everyone. Here’s hoping that these April “showers” lay the groundwork for “May Flowers”.
Cock Blockers– April 6th, 2018
John Cena earned his place in many people’s hearts due to his high flying, dramatized, slap fighting he did against scantily clad, costumed men. He earned my respect though with Ferdinand. An animated film that I would not have been sad to see win an Oscar last year. Now, I’m excited to see him in a lead role in the upcoming Cock Blockers. It certainly doesn’t look like it’s going to be a groundbreaking comedy film, but hey, we’re here to have fun at the movies and I’m going to put my faith in Cena to carry this one across the finish line. The trailer is filled with low brow humor, but I’m not going to pass any judgment there. Rather, I’m waiting to see where they’re going with this and hoping that the price of admission is well worth seeing John Cena in dad shorts.
A Quiet Place– April 6th, 2018
Yeah, I know that everyone on Tinder is looking for the Jim to their Pam or vice versa. However, I’m excited to see John Krasinski putting some distance between him and The Office. Don’t get me wrong, The Office was… A show. However, he was probably the best part in 13 Hours and with an Amazon series starring him as Jack Ryan in the near future, I feel like it’s time to for him to put a little distance between himself and the Jim character. While I still have no real clue what A Quiet Place is really about, it looks like it might be a bit too convoluted to just be another lame post-apocalyptic movie. So, here’s hoping that he manages to break free of that “good boy” image he earned while wooing a secretary on primetime TV. Not my highest hope for the month, but a movie I’ll be interested in seeing how it turns out.
Super Troopers 2– April 20th, 2018
This. This is what we have been patiently waiting for, for the past few years. Super Troopers is still a movie that holds a special place in my heart. It’s original, funny, and never seems to get old. While I have no idea if Broken Lizard is going to be able to capture lightning in a bottle twice, I do know is that this is probably a film that is not going to be enhanced by copious amounts of mind-altering drugs. Of course, Stars & Popcorn would never condone this sort of activity, but if you live in one of those cool states, more power to you. After all, that seems to be the sort of audience that Broken Lizard is aiming for and I suppose you could think of it like buying a pair of 3D glasses for this movie. New movies are always better when you’re well prepared for them.
Bad Samaritan– April 27, 2018 (Moved to May)
Have you heard of this new movie? Because I just discovered that David Tennant is back to playing a psycho killer, though this time without any mind powers. The trailer for this looks incredibly creepy and I’m still jonesing for a good horror movie four months into 2018. This though looks a lot like one of my favorite movies from 2016, Don’t Breathe, meets Kilgrave from Jessica Jones. Needless to say, I’m pretty excited to see how this one turns out. I’m just hoping that a magical blue box doesn’t show up part way through it. Still, I can’t wait to see Tenant back in the saddle when it comes to playing creepy villains. He’s a compelling actor and if he can provide the backbone for Bad Samaritans, it looks to be one of the most uncomfortable new movies I’ve seen in years.
Avengers: Infinity War-April 27, 2018
Big news, everyone! Thanks to some fancy marketing work by Marvel, we’re getting a chance to see Infinity War a month early! Of course, I think that they were just scared to compete with Deadpool 2 next month, but that’s neither here nor there. Marvel has risen the bar recently with their films, and I imagine that Infinity War is going to be one of the biggest movie events, well, ever. It’s going to be crammed full of more superheroes than you can shake a stick at! On top of that, there’s no certainty that everyone is going to make it out alive this time. Contracts are ending and that means that people either need to re-up or keel over dead on screen. Let’s just say that I think this one is going to have quite a few “Agent Coulsons” to inspire epic revenge (or avenge) battles. This is definitely going to be the biggest of the new movies hitting theaters in April, if not the year.
As always, there are still plenty of other new movies hitting theaters. I managed to narrow it down to 5 movies I can’t wait to see, but I want to hear what you’re looking forward to. As always, I’ll try to make sure I get a chance to review your picks, but it’s always good to know what my readers want to see. So comment what you can’t wait to see, what you don’t want to see, and what you hope I’ll suffer through next month. I’ll do my best to please because that’s what Stars & Popcorn is all about!
