The Top 10 Best Movie Babysitters
Dump Your Kids with These Movie Babysitters and Enjoy a Night of Peace and Relaxation.
After the kids being home from school for months, I’m willing to bet every parent out there would kill for a break. That’s why I’ve tackled a list of the 10 best babysitters of all time. When you need a break from your little “darlings”, these brave souls are willing to deal with them if the price is right. Now, there are plenty of horror films out there that feature terrible babysitters seeking to harm the children left in their care (enough to make you reconsider that night off from parenting), and there’s the troupe of the sexy sitter that has “a thing” for older, married men. So, I stuck with movie babysitters who would guarantee you get your kids back in one-piece and won’t try to seduce any husbands or wives. To be fair though, movies with babysitters usually mean some kind of adventure parents wouldn’t be happy about, but what mom and dad don’t know won’t hurt them. This list also won’t include any parents or nannies (nanny is kind of a full-time gig after all). I will accept siblings, since that’s what they’re for, and these “sittings” can be an extended period. However, it has to be temporary overall and, more or less, voluntary. So, get ready to pawn your little monsters off on someone else and get that much-needed date night, because these movie babysitters are on the clock!
10. Noah Griffith- The Sitter
Times are rough out there for millennials. So, it’s no wonder that the first of the movie babysitters on this list is a college guy living at home with his mom. Noah (Jonah Hill) has been struggling since he got suspended from college. He’s been staying with his mom, can’t hold down a job, and can’t get a serious girlfriend to save his life. When you’re desperate for a sitter though, you’ll take anyone, and so Noah finds himself responsible for the well being of three kids one night. Now, The Sitter wouldn’t be much fun if Noah made the kids pizza rolls, let them watch cartoons, and put them to sleep promptly at 10 PM. That means Noah makes the first bad decision possible when a girl calls him looking for drugs in exchange for sex. Needless to say, an adventure that would make parents faint follows, but as I said, what mom and dad don’t know won’t hurt them. The important thing is that he got the kids home safe and pretty much the same condition they were given to him.
9. Sue Ellen- Don’t Tell Mom the Babysitter is Dead
Teens are all about reaping the benefits of responsibility, but as soon as they have to pay the piper they throw a fit. When it comes to movie babysitters, every kid in the early 90s was hoping their parents would hire them a Sue Ellen (Christina Applegate) after Don’t Tell Mom the Babysitter is Dead. Like most teens, Sue Ellen is in a rush to grow up as fast as she can. Well, she gets the chance when her mom goes on vacation to Australia, and the babysitter she leaves them with drops dead. Seeing it as an opportunity to prove herself, Sue Ellen seizes control of the situation and places herself in charge. Unfortunately, her siblings undermine her and spend all the petty cash they’re left with, forcing Sue Ellen to get a job. She gets a crash course in “adulting” and soon learns it’s nowhere near as fun as she hoped. Despite covering up a death, Sue Ellen managed to keep herself and her siblings alive, earning her a respectable spot on this list.
8. Wren DeSantis- Fun Size
The only reason I can think of for having two kids is so that later in life the big one can watch the little one. That’s where high school senior Wren DeSantis finds herself one fateful Halloween. It’s been almost a year since the death of her dad, and her family is still grieving in their own way. So, when her mom decides that she needs a night out on the town with her new beau, Wren gets stuck watching her oddball brother, Albert, who hasn’t spoken since their dad died. It doesn’t take long for Wren to lose Albert in the chaos of Halloween, and the rest of her night is spent trying to track him down. Turns out though that Albert is having the time of his life as he gets sucked into some crazy adventures of his own and wins the admiration of the older kids for his ability to party hard. Wren, on the other hand, encounters a series of unfortunate events following her brother’s trail. Eventually, the two find each other and it turns out to be the best Halloween ever. A happy ending considering the night started off “ruined” for Wren.
7. Ashley- Better Watch Out
I hate to break it to all you parents out there, but your precious little angel is probably really a demon in disguise. The second you walk out the door, their heads start spinning and the green puke starts spraying. In all seriousness though, Ashley is one of the many movie babysitters that needs a raise after the night she had. 12-year-old Luke Lerner seems like the perfect young man. He’s smart, polite, and oh such a good boy. Beneath all those years of telling Luke that he’s mommy’s good boy has turned him into a narcissistic sociopath ready to unleash a night of horrors on Ashley. Convinced a psychotic killer is watching them, Ashley prepares to defend Luke to the bitter end. The truth comes to light, and Ashley switches gears from protecting Luke to running for her life. I’m giving her a spot in the movie babysitters hall of fame because if it was me in that situation… Well, let’s just say the Lerner’s wouldn’t have left me a tip.
6. Chris Parker- Adventures in Babysitting
Sometimes even the best intentions have disastrous results. Chris Parker (Elizabeth Shue) is a pretty responsible young lady. She’s the kind of person you can count on to come through when the chips are down. So, when her friend calls with an emergency while Chris is babysitting, she makes the hard choice to gather up the kids and go rescue her friend at a bus stop. Along the way, everything that can go wrong does. Pretty soon, Chris is stuck on the side of the road in the Southside of Chicago with three kids and no way to get back home. At this point, you might be wondering why she’s on this list of the best movie babysitters. Well, the truth is that even when things are at their worst, Chris keeps the kids safe and has them home in the nick of time. Despite a disastrous start to the night, all’s well that ends well, and if there’s one thing you want in a babysitter, it’s one that can guarantee that things will end well.
