The Top 10 Best Gun Fu Masters from Movies
5. Wade Wilson AKA Deadpool- Deadpool and Deadpool 2
Deadpool has a bad habit of forgetting to bring enough bullets with him to gunfights. However, when he does have ammo, he’s absolutely devastating. Deadpool opens with a sequence that proves he’s a full-fledged Gun Fu master as he takes on a team of mercenaries with only two handguns. He even warns tells them, “I only have 12 bullets, so you’re all going to have to share.” It might seem like he’s talking big, but he makes good on his promise, taking out three baddies with one bullet. Deadpool’s style relies on his incredible agility, dexterity, and even his mouth as he corrals his opponents into position. However, his most dangerous skill is… Math? You see, like any great Gun Fu master, Deadpool counts his bullets, so he knows how many are left.
4. Neo- The Matrix Trilogy
The Wachowski’s elevated Gun Fu in western cinema with their cyberpunk masterpiece The Matrix. There are a ton of master gunfighters in the series, but at the center of it all is Keanu Reeves’ character Neo. Of course, Neo has a pretty big advantage over the rest of the Gun Fu masters on this list, since he was able to learn a ton of martial arts in only a matter of hours. Toss in the fact that all of his gunfights take place in the matrix and he’s pretty much gaming in God mode. Neo doesn’t rank higher on this list because he eventually transcends the need for firearms. Even though he doesn’t use them much in the later films, if he did go back to gunplay, he could probably make short work of anyone else on this list… As long as the fight was inside the matrix.
3. Gary ‘Eggsy’ Unwin- The Kingsman Films
Harry Hart is definitely one of the greatest movie spies of all time and isn’t too shabby when it comes to Gun Fu (especially during the church massacre sequence). However, his protege has proven himself to be pretty adept at Gun Fu himself. Eggsy has combined his military training with gymnastics to give him a huge advantage when it comes to gunfights. This unique combination of abilities allows him to leap through the air with the greatest of ease, scoring plenty of headshots while ducking and diving out of the way. Eggsy makes gunfight seem more like ballets and he’s Baryshnikov. These skills helped him to save the world in The Secret Service and The Golden Circle which makes him a Gun Fu master in my book.
2. John Wick- The John Wick Trilogy
Over the course of three films, John Wick has proven himself to be one of the most deadly men in movie history. He’s left a trail of bodies in his wake, taking out anyone dumb enough to get in his way. Wick’s pragmatic approach to close quarters combat has him using a wide variety of martial arts techniques from Brazilian Ju-Jitsu to Judo. However, he’s not just another brawler who punches his way out of bad situations. Instead, he fluidly integrates gunplay with martial arts to make him one of the greatest Gun Fu masters of all time. Thanks to his agility, accuracy, and dexterity, he’s managed to carve his way through some of the most powerful crime syndicates on the planet in one of the greatest tales of revenge of all time.
1. John Preston- Equilibrium
As good as John Wick is at Gun Fu, John Preston has one serious advantage over him, he actually knows GUN FU! He’s a member of the Grammaton Clerics, a police force that hunts down and eliminates rebels who still have human emotions. As a Cleric, Preston has trained in Gun Katas, a style of martial arts based on statistics and geometry that allows a Cleric to position themselves in a gunfight in order to avoid getting shot while taking out enemies. Basically, Preston is able to walk into a room of armed adversaries and kill them all while avoiding every shot fired. That training makes Clerics one-man armies and Preston is the best of the best, which makes him to most proficient gunfighter on this list of Gun Fu masters.
I have to admit this was an incredibly difficult list to narrow down with all the incredible gunfighters that have appeared over the years. I’d love to hear your thoughts though. Be sure to leave a comment below about who your favorite Gun Fu master is and let me know what you thought of my picks. As always, I’ll be updating this list from time to time as new and improved Gun Fu masters appear. So, check back from time to time to see how the rankings change!
