7 Movie Hotels You Wont Check Out Of
Pinewood Motel- Vacancy
This is definitely one of those movie hotels you won’t want to book your honeymoon at. For one thing, there’s nothing to do anywhere near the Pinewood Motel. For another, it’s a place that makes snuff films and sells them to the highest bidder. “Who stars in these films,” you might ask? Anyone foolish enough to check into this seedy roadside motel. The worst part is that it’s not even a place worthy of your last night on Earth. Don’t get me wrong, I don’t think there’s a hotel in the world I’d trade a night in for my life, but if I gotta go I at least expect room service first. Not only is the Pinewood Motel owned by a perverted creep who can’t wait to splatter the walls with your blood, but it’s also probably chalked full of health code violations. The good news is if you use a black light in there, most of those stains are, in fact, probably blood.
Overlook Hotel- The Shining
One of the most infamous movie hotels of all time has got to be the infamous Overlook Hotel from The Shining. To be fair, I’m sure it’s perfectly lovely during the tourist season. Unfortunately, we only get a look at it during the dreaded off-season. While the staff is away the sadistic ghosts will play, much to the chagrin of the Torrance family. It’s filled with all sorts of disturbing spirits from Lloyd the bartender to those creepy twins that just stand in the hallway. Worst of all, the Overlook is a pretty secluded place, which might make it ideal for those who want to get away, but the same can’t be said for those who want to get away… From a crazed psychopath. Despite its beauty, the Overlook has a dark enough history to make anyone rethink booking a room here.
Bates Motel- Psycho
You didn’t think I’d put together a list of terrifying movie hotels and forget about good old Norman, did you? Before it was a series on TV, the Bates Motel appeared in the Hitchcock classic Psycho. The film is about a tacky little motel owned by the original horror movie mama’s boy. The thing about the Bates Motel is that people tend to check in and never check out, especially once Norman’s Mother finds out he’s been peeking at the pretty girls who stay the night there. While there have been a ton of horrifying movie hotels of the years, The Bates Motel remains the most iconic of them all. Not only is it owned by one of the greatest movie serial killers of all time, but it’s also been referenced in everything from other horror films to Saturday morning cartoons. That alone makes it more than worthy to wrap up this list.
Honorable Mention: Identity
I love Identity. It’s an amazing movie, but there’s one very good reason why the hotel in it didn’t make this list. Spoiler Alert: It doesn’t exist. Want to know what I mean? Too bad. Go watch the movies and find out for yourself. You’ll thank me when you do.
Those are just a few of the memorable horror movie hotels that we’ve seen over the years. There are definitely a lot more out there though, so if you think I forgot a good one be sure to leave a comment below. In the meantime, be sure to check back from time to time, since I’ll be updating this list and newer (and creepier) movie hotels make their big screen debuts.
