Now Streaming: December 2018

Netflix

Hero Mask (December 2nd)

I’m a huge anime geek, so it makes sense I would be looking forward to getting a chance to stream Hero Mask. All I really know about it is what IMDB is sharing:

“Detective James Blood investigates a string of grisly crimes all involving a mysterious mask.”

No clue if it’ll be good or not, but I’ve been pretty happy with the original anime on Netflix recently, so I’m going to be streaming this as soon as it hits Netflix December 2nd.

Mowgli: Legend of the Jungle (December 7th)

I’ve actually been looking forward to this film for a few years. It was originally slated to go toe to toe with the live action Jungle Book we got in 2016. The film is from Andy Serkis (who knows a thing or two about motion capture) and features a pretty impressive voice cast. It might be a year or two past its original release date, but I say better late than never. Besides this way it’s competition has had a chance to fade from memory, which could be just the thing it needs to be a success.

Roma (December 14th)

Roma has been getting some pretty incredible buzz lately, which means I’m going to be looking forward to streaming this as soon as possible. The film follows a middle-class family in Mexico City and with all the positive feedback it’s been getting I think this could be this year’s Coco (in that it shines a well deserved positive light on Mexican culture). Chances are that this is going to be getting more than few accolades when award season starts, so you might as well see what all the gab is about.

3 Below: Tales of Arcadia (December 21st)

Guillermo del Toro has teamed with Netflix before to bring us The Troll Hunter, and I loved it. So you better believe that I’m going to be streaming his new series. Troll Hunter was about, well, trolls, but 3 Below looks to be about aliens who have come to the same town that The Troll Hunter took place in. In fact, it even looks like it’s going to be crossing over with the characters from his first series. It’s just a shame that we won’t get to hear Aton Yelchin lend his voice to this series as well.

Bird Box (December 21st)

Bird Box looks absolutely crazy. The film stars Sandra Bullock who finds herself in an apocalyptic world inhabited by creatures that drive those who see them to suicide. If that doesn’t perk your interest I don’t know what to tell you, beause to me it feels like Christmas is coming early thanks to Netflix. I was sold the moment I saw the trailer appear online last month and have been waiting patiently ever since. Here’s hoping it manages to live up to my high expectations.

There are lots more movies and shows being added this December, but the ones above should have plenty to offer. As always, enjoy these suggestions and remember to binge responsibly.
