Ranking the Marvel Netflix Series
4. Daredevil Season 3
Daredevil makes a triumphant return in season 3 as it gets back to basics. While the second season tried to introduce too many new characters all with their own story arcs, the third season brought back a number of fan favorites from past seasons while introducing one of Daredevil’s more feared villains, Bullseye (played by Wilson Bethel). I loved the way they managed to translate this character to the small screen, not only in the fight sequences but also with the psychology behind his character. To make things even better, season 3 really played up the criminal mastermind aspect to Wilson ‘The Kingpin’ Fisk’s character. The downside is that Matt Murdock sure was emo this season as he tried to find his way in a post- Defenders world. However, the wrost part of this season is that there was way too much Karen, including a full episode devoted to her past that only made me hate her more. You got to take the good with the bad though and overall, Daredevil season 3 was pretty damn good.
3. Luke Cage Season 1
There was a lot that I really loved about Luke Cage. The soundtrack, the social commentary, the fact that Mike Colter could actually get away with saying “Sweet Christmas” without me snickering. The first half of this series had me ready to declare it the best of all the Marvel Netflix series. However, then they went and switched villains on us. From a crime boss set to rival Wilson Fisk and his snake in the grass cousin with political ties to some half-brother with a “power suit.” Seriously though, Diamondback was the most ridiculous of all the villain’s fans had gotten so far, and a hero is only as good as their villain. Still, I love the style the Luke Cage brought to Netflix. Everything about it popped and fit together perfectly, and I will say it had the best soundtrack of them all by a long shot.
Oh, and Shades was super lame too.
2. Jessica Jones Season 1
If you’re looking for some serious girl power, then you don’t have to look much further than the whiskey swigging, hard-nosed detective Jessica Jones. What I loved about the series is just how much Jessica didn’t want to be a hero, but couldn’t help herself. Honestly, Krysten Ritter was a surprise hit and brought the perfect attitude to the character. However, the piece de resistance was David Tennant as Kilgrave. As awesome as Kingpin is, Kilgrave is my personal favorite villain of all the Marvel Netflix series. Toss in the fact that Jones had to go up against Will Simpson (aka Nuke) as well, and this show nailed its villains. But villains are a dime a dozen, Jessica Jones gave the women of the MCU a chance to shine with a genderswapped Jeri Hogarth and good old Trish Walker (who I hope to see in costume in season 2).
1. Daredevil Season 1
The show that started it all, and is still the undisputed king of the Marvel Netflix series. Daredevil showed us that Marvel wasn’t afraid to get its hands dirty with its street-level heroes and that we could all forget that whole Ben Affleck fiasco. Looking back, I can’t think of any serious flaws with the first season (besides how obnoxious I find Karen Page). Charlie Cox was spectacular as the blind hero whose real superpower is that he can take as much as he dishes out. As amazing as all the action sequence were, it was the relationships that made this such a great series. Matt Murdock had Foggy Nelson, Wilson Fisk had James Wesley, and fans had Claire Temple (Rosario Dawson is the true Queen of Geeks). Daredevil just got it all right.
With that whole Disney thing, who knows if this list will get much of a chance to be altered in the future. But until official news hits, I’m going to continue enjoying the Marvel Netflix series yet to come. So, what are your thoughts? Is this list in the proper order or would you move some of the shows around? Be sure to let me know in the comments what you love and hate most about all the Marvel shows on Netflix so far!
