Top 10 Casino Movies
4. Ocean’s Eleven
One of the top entries from Stars & Popcorn’s Top 10 Heist Movies just so happens to be one of the best casino movies ever made. Danny Ocean intends to make a fortune at the Bellagio Casino. The thing is that he’s not going to be relying on lady luck to do so. Instead, he’s counting on ten other cons to help him pull off an incredible robbery that will leave them all rich beyond their wildest dreams. The only problem is that the owner of the Bellagio (Andy Garcia) is on to him as soon as he walks through the front door. Ocean’s Eleven is a smart, stylish, and hilarious heist movie. It’s too bad 12 and 13 didn’t capture the same spirit of this great flick. Luckily Ocean’s 8 was a pretty solid successor for the franchise.
3. Rain Man
When you think of casino movies, Rain Man probably isn’t one of the first films to pop into your head. How could we ever forget that fantastic sequence at the end when Dustin Hoffman and Tom Cruise take Vegas for all it’s worth thanks to Hoffman’s savant syndrome that allows him to count cards (something which isn’t exactly illegal, but not smiled kindly upon by casinos). While a lot of the other flicks on this list might spend more time focusing on gambling, Rain Man’s Vegas sequence is a pivotal point in a film that’s really about coming to peace with your family. While I might not suggest taking the kids with you to the casino, I can’t recommend that you and your family check out what is easily one of the best films of all time.
2. Casino Royale (2006)
There will always be a never-ending argument over who is the best Bond, but I think we can all agree that Daniel Craig is far from the worst. He got his start in the role of 007 in Casino Royale, a film that places the super-spy at the poker table against an up-and-coming Mads Mikkelsen. Unlike the other casino movies on this list, Casino Royale is a classier affair with the game taking place in a private gambling hall in Montenegro (another town well known for gambling). If you haven’t had a chance to see it, don’t worry. Bond doesn’t save the day with Texas hold ‘em along and there are plenty of fight scenes and car chases to please every spy lover out there. It’s a great origin film worthy of the man who is the quintessential movie spy.
