5 New Movies to Look Forward to In May 2018

Well, folks, April was a month of many mixed emotions when it came to new movies. For the most part, there were a lot of pretty outstanding films that came out, but there were certainly a few abominations unto cinema as well. That was then though and it’s time to turn our eyes to the future, May.

I certainly know that there are more than a few new movies I’m literally screaming in anticipation to see this month. However, there are definitely a ton that I’m shuddering at the thought of as well (Overboard, Book Club, Show Dogs… The list goes on). Then again, every month has its share of bad films, but not every month has the movie I was most excited about in 2018! I’m so excited for this flick that I don’t think anything can ruin this month for me. Just to be on the safe side though I thought I would round up four other movies to look forward to.

Izzy Gets the F*ck Across Town– May 4th, 2018 (Pushed to June)

I gotta admit, I’m a sucker for beautiful disasters and this definitely looks like it’s a movie that’s going to be about a millennial living her best life. I’ll be the first to admit that a lot of my generation doesn’t really have it together and we’ve got our share of issues, which is why I was such a fan of the trailer. It even has a couple of actors who always perk my interest, most notably Haley Joel Osment who has been popping up all over the place lately. Besides, who doesn’t love a frantic mad dash of a film guaranteed to give you a heaping helping of second-hand shame? Plus, I think Izzy looks pretty spiffy in her white tuxedo. So, I’m willing to give this one a chance.

Bad Samaritan– May 4th, 2018

This was actually one of the new movies I was looking forward to last month, but the release date was pushed back to May… So, here it is again:

“I just discovered that David Tennant is back to playing a psycho killer, though this time without any mind powers. The trailer for this looks incredibly creepy and I’m still jonesing for a good horror movie four months into 2018. This though looks a lot like one of my favorite movies from 2016, Don’t Breathe, meets Kilgrave from Jessica Jones. Needless to say, I’m pretty excited to see how this one turns out. I’m just hoping that a magical blue box doesn’t show up part way through it. Still, I can’t wait to see Tenant back in the saddle when it comes to playing creepy villains. He’s a compelling actor and if he can provide the backbone for Bad Samaritan, it looks to be one of the most uncomfortable new movies I’ve seen in years.”

Deadpool 2– May 18th, 2018

I am literally screaming after watching the trailer for Deadpool 2. If I can get a little serious for a second, Deadpool is a movie that recently helped me get through a bout of depression I was dealing with because it always makes me smile. Not that I’m hoping to be clinically depressed again any time soon, but I’m glad that there’s going to be a sequel to go along with the first one. Plus, I have a serious man crush on Ryan Reynolds in general, so this is definitely going to refill my quota when it comes to his movies. Toss in the fact that the director of John Wick, David Leitch, is taking over the series and I am one happy camper. That’s probably why I’ve got tickets to back to back showings opening night.

How to Talk to Girls at Parties– May 25th, 2018

So, I’m hoping you took a moment to check out the trailer because my mind is still blown by it. I wasn’t sure what to think, but after reading over a write up of the plot, seeing that it’s from the director of Hedwig and the Angry Inch (John Cameron Mitchell), and is from the brilliant mind of Neil Gaiman, I’m officially intrigued. Part of me thinks this is one of those new movies that’s going to be mind-blowing in the best possible way. Though another part of me is still recoiling a bit from the trailer, I think that’s just because everything about it was so overwhelming at first. Basically, I’m on pins and needles when it comes to this one because I have no idea what to expect, and that’s not always a bad thing in my book.

Solo: A Star Wars Story– May 25th, 2018

When it comes to my scorecard of new movies in the Star Wars universe it’s sitting comfortably at 2-1 (can you guess which one is the loss?), which is enough to keep me moderately optimistic about Solo. Still, with all the drama behind the scenes that resulted in Ron Howard taking over part way through principal photography, it’s hard to tell how this might turn out. Still, Han is a great character and getting to see his origin as official canon in the Star Wars universe of the big screen is exciting. Now I’ve never been one of those Star Wars nerds, but I’m a geek at heart. So, I might not have enough invested in the quality of this movie to be freaking out in anticipation, but if it’s not good it will definitely ruin my night for me.

There are the five new movies that I think everyone should be excited for in April, but there are a ton of others coming out (including one I got to see at the Florida Film Festival a few weeks ago). Be sure to leave a comment about what new movies you’re looking forward to the most this month and which ones you think are going to be absolute garbage. We’ll find out next month if my predictions were on the money or not.
