Like an adorable little Hannibal Lecter.

The Girl with All the Gifts– Amazon always manages to have a lot of the newer releases available and this one is no exception. It’s the zombie apocalypse, but this time around the military is managing to successfully experiment on zombies to create a sort of hybrid that might be the only hope for mankind. After their base falls it’s up to a small team to get the girl to scientists that can finish their work. The only question is if she’s going to keep her urges under control.

For those who like to laugh before you scream.

Crush the Skull– I threw my hands up in the air when I saw that Amazon added this film. I was lucky enough to see it at a film festival about two years ago and it was the highlight for me. It’s a horror comedy that follows a group of burglars that accidentally burgle the wrong house. It slowly becomes clear that they’re in a den of torture belonging to a sadistic killer who is set to return any moment. When he does their easy score becomes a game of survival as they have to wander through his dark maze without alerting him to their presence. You’ll laugh, you’ll cry, you’ll scream “LOOK OUT BEHIND YOU!” Want some laughs with your horror, this flick is for you.

Patrick Stewart as a Neo-Nazi? Now that’s scary.

Green Room– Neo-nazis have gotten a lot scarier these days, but neo-nazis led by Patrick Stewart is something else entirely. This was a tough one to watch, not just because of the brutality displayed in it, but because it stars the late Anton Yelchin. A punk band lands a gig at a bar frequented by a less than ideal crowd and after an incident finds themselves trapped and forced to fight their way out. The violence in is gut-wrenching, and not because it’s over the top. This is one of those horror movies that will definitely keep you on the edge of your seat.

Nothing says a little mother-daughter time, then a terrifying monster hunting you.

The Monster– Sometimes horror movies have a deeper message to them. The Monster explores the relationship between a young mother and her daughter. Things haven’t been easy, and the mom has been pretty bad at the whole parenting thing. When the two find themselves broken down on a backwoods road though, they soon discover that something is out in the woods, watching them. This flick just goes to show that the old adage is true, you don’t want to get between a mother and her young.

Is… Is that a zombie?

The Return of the Living Dead– If you’re looking for some old school horror before Halloween hits you’ll definitely want to check out this classic zombie movie. Yeah, it’s not exactly a George Romaro masterpiece, but when you reflect fondly on the kind of cliched horror films of yesteryear that you miss so much, this one pretty much is everything that springs to mind. It’s got the kind of gore that’s so over the top everyone can enjoy it without getting squeamish. Plus, who doesn’t love zombie movies when this time of year comes around?
