The Top 10 Best Movie Brothers
We All Wish Our Siblings Were As Cool As These Movie Brothers.
They say there’s nothing quite like the bond between brothers. That’s why this week, I’m tackling the 10 best movie brothers of all time! Now, I’ll admit that I don’t have a brother of my own, just a kick-ass sister (Yo, Emo). So, I have no idea what it’s really like to have one. Thanks to all the great movie brothers that have appeared on-screen over the years, I don’t feel like I’m missing out on much though. The rules are simple, in order to appear on this list, the characters have to be brothers (biological, adopted, or step) that appeared together in a live-action movie. Now, you’re probably thinking “how could you possibly narrow down all the great movie brothers out there to just 10?” Well, keep reading and you’ll find out. I stuck with the most memorable and iconic ones as possible and didn’t keep my choices confined to just duos. So, check it out to see which of the best big-screen bros earned a spot!
10. Leonardo, Donatello, Raphael, and Michelangelo- Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles
Sure, these four might not have gotten their start on the big screen, but that doesn’t make them any less deserving of a spot among the best movie brothers of all time. Now, I’m not sure if Leo, Raph, Donny, and Mickey are related, but they were all raised by the same giant, mutant, martial artist rat. Not that it really even matters, because a wise man once pointed out the difference between being a father and being a daddy. Whether related by blood or simply by the ooze, these four turtles in a half shelf came together to become protectors of New York, doing battle with mutants, aliens, and even the evil Shredder to keep their city safe. Their selflessness and love of pizza make them a worthy addition to this list.
9. Arnie and Gilbert Grape- What’s Eating Gilbert Grape
What’s eating Gilbert Grape? Well, a lot. I don’t have enough time to run down the list of all the stressors in Gilbert’s life, but one of the biggest has to be his brother Arnie. Gilbert’s brother was born with a mental disability and the doctors didn’t think he’d live past 10. Well, he proved them wrong and the little scamp is still going strong 18 years later. Of course, Arnie tends to have a penchant for getting into trouble and causes Gilbert plenty of grief as he tries to look out for his little bro. Still, even as exasperated as he gets caring for Arnie, Gilbert never stops loving him. When their mother passes away, Gilbert decides to take Arnie with him when he leaves town. Their loving bond makes them two of the best movie brothers of all time.
8. Brennan Huff and Dale Doback- Step Brothers
They say that the blood of the covenant is thicker than the water of the womb. That’s why not all the great movie brothers on this list are related by birth. In fact, two of the most memorable movie brothers of all time didn’t become family until they were “grown men.” I use the term loosely because it’s a stretch to call Brennan or Dale mature by any sense of the word. In fact, I would go so far as to call them both classic examples of the elusive “man child.” When they first met, they were bound and determined to hate each other’s guts. That all changed when they discovered just how much they had in common. Their newfound love for one another forced them to grow up in order to help make sure their parents tied the knot and made them officially brothers.
7. Thor Odinson and Loki Laufeyson- The MCU
Thor and Loki have a classic love-hate relationship. Well, that might actually be putting it lightly considering how many times Loki has tried to kill Thor. Thor’s a pretty good sport about it though and always seems to give his adopted brother another chance to redeem himself. Even when Loki pulled such horrible stunts like trying to take over the world, faked his own death, and transformed into a snake and tricking his brother into picking him up, Thor always saw the potential in him. These two might have a rocky relationship, but there’s nothing like a horrifying third sibling to bring two movie brothers together and Thor: Ragnarok gave them exactly that. Loki suffered a tragic death at the hands of Thanos, but thanks to a little time paradox, he seems to be alive and kicking. It’s probably only a matter of time before these two are reunited once more.
6. Connor and Murphy MacManus- The Boondock Saints
When it comes to movie brothers it’s important for them to find common ground on a shared hobby. For the MacManus brothers, that hobby involves being gun-toting vigilantes. Sick and tired of organized crime encroaching on their precious Boston, the two take up the fight to help keep the streets safe by making them run red with blood. It’s a little surprising just how good they are when it comes to killing bad guys until it’s revealed that their father was the legendary assassin, “Il Duce.” Connor and Murphy get along surprisingly well and hardly ever seem to let their differences distract from the fact that they’re family and have a job to do. Thanks to Hot Topic, these movie brothers have become a cult phenomenon beloved by skid high schoolers the world over.
