5 New Movies to Look Forward to In December 2019
2019 is Almost Over, but There Are Still New Movies to Look Forward to!
2019 is almost over and a new decade is nearly upon us. Before then, we have one more month of new movies to look forward to. There are a lot of exciting films hitting theaters and with the holidays, it can be tough to figure out what you want to devote your precious free time to see. Not to worry though, because I’ve looked ahead at the upcoming month and pulled together a list of the five new movies I’m most excited for. Check out my picks below and be sure to leave a comment letting me know what you’re looking forward to the most!
Jumanji: The Next Level– December 13th
I’ll admit that I wasn’t the biggest fan of Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle. It’s not that I hated the first film, it just didn’t really knock my socks off. However, the new trailer for Jumanji: The Next Level featuring Dwayne Johnson and Kevin Hart doing their impressions of Danny Devito and Danny Glover has won me over. A lot of times, December can be a heavy month for films as studios stuff in their final hopes at Oscar contenders. So, I’ll be perfectly content for a mindless action comedy featuring some box office heavyweights.
Uncut Gems– December 13th
I find so many of Adam Sandler’s movies insufferable, especially the slew of comedies he’s done with Netflix. However, when he takes on more serious roles, I find myself really enjoying his work. I’ve heard some good things about Uncut gems and the trailer makes it look like an incredibly wild ride. I only hope that it can live up to the hype. Either way, this looks like one of the more unique films of the year and I’m curious to see if Sandler still has the same magic he did in films like Spanglish, Funny People, and Punch Drunk Love.
Black Christmas– December 13th
Hey, I’ll be the first to admit that I’ve developed an irrational love of horror movies in recent years. That’s why I’m really excited to see a Christmas horror movie scheduled for December. I’ve heard some questionable things about this remake of Black Christmas, but that doesn’t make me any less enthusiastic about viewing some holiday bloodshed, especially because Blumhouse has had a pretty solid track record recently. There have been a lot of pretty great Christmas horror movies over the years (Rare: Exports, Krampus, etc) and I just hope this will be another one.
Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker– December 20th
I know we’re all still feeling a little sore over The Last Jedi. Well, it’s that time of year to forgive and forget, which is why I’ve decided to include Rise of the Skywalker on this little list of anticipated movies. It’s supposed to be the end of the Star Wars epic and will hopefully answer a lot of questions we’ve been left with over the years. I just hope it does the series justice in the end. Either way, this will be bittersweet, since we’re going to have to wait until 2022 for the next Star Wars movie. At least we have The Mandalorian until then.
Bombshell– December 20th
With how crazy the political climate has become over the past few months (it’s been crazy for longer than that), I’m excited to see a movie stick it to those buttheads over at Fox news. The film is supposed to follow a trio of women dealing with the rampant sexual harassment and condescension that has since been documented at the “news” organization. I’m sure it won’t do anything to change the minds of the minions that love the fact that women aren’t treated like people there, but I’m eager to hear these women’s stories.
Honorable Mention: 1917– December 27th
Alas, this World War I movie is only getting a limited release in December. However, if you have the opportunity to check it out, I would definitely do it. I can’t wait to see it in January when it hits theaters across the nation.
Dishonorable Mention: Cats– December 20th
The horror… The horror…
Seriously though, just look at the trailer. It’s pure nightmare fuel and as a lover of felines, I cannot abide this atrocity!
There you have it, the five movies I’m most excited for in December. What movies are you looking forward to? Leave a comment with the film you’re the most excited for and be sure to check back throughout December, because I’ll be reviewing them all. Until next year, happy movie watching!
