5 New Movies to Look Forward to In March 2019
March is Full of New Movies to Get Excited About!
February proved to be a pretty good month for new movies, and March looks like it’s going to continue that trend. This month starts to role out a few of my most anticipated new movies of 2019, as well as one or two that barely missed being included on that list. March features a live-action Disney movie, a super-heroine for the ages, a drug-fueled adventure, and a highly anticipated follow up film from one of the most promising directors in Hollywood. At the very least, March is going to be an incredibly interesting month. With so many new movies hitting theaters this month it can be hard deciding what might be worth the price of admission. Luckily, I’ve put together a list of five new movies that look the most promising of the bunch. Here’s hoping for a truly great month at the cinema!
Greta– March 1st
There’s nothing quite as satisfying as a legitimate thriller. 2018 was actually a pretty good year for new movies that left you on the edge of your seat and I’m hoping that 2019 continues that trend with Greta. The film appears to tell the twisted tale of a woman who sets up “traps” around the city to lure good samaritans to her doorstep only for her to reveal how dangerously obsessive and unstable she is after winning their trust. What sticks out though is that this stalker movie features an older woman instead of following the current trend of white guys stalking women. The trailer is pretty chilling and I’m betting that Greta will be hard to watch in the best possible way.
Captain Marvel– March 8th
Sure, we’re all looking forward to seeing what happens after Thanos snapped his fingers in Infinity War, but before we do Marvel is introducing us to the hero that will be carrying the MCU into the future. I have to hand it to Captain Marvel, scheduling its release for International Women’s day was a stroke of genius and I haven’t been this excited for an MCU movie in a while. Brie Larson will have some big shoes to fill if she’s stepping up as the potential savior of the MCU, but she’s such a talented actress that I have a lot of faith in her to pull it off. If you haven’t gotten your tickets for this one, you definitely need to stop what you’re doing and snatch them up now before it’s too late.
Us– March 22nd
Jordan Peele rocked the film world with Get Out and his follow up feature looks like it is going to be every bit as good. He’s managed to raise the bar for the horror genre proving that story and substance don’t have to take a back seat to blood and gore. I’m legitimately nervous to see this movie, not because I’m afraid it will be bad, but because it looks like it’s going to give me full on nightmares after seeing it. The film follows a family that has to do battle with evil mirror versions of themselves in order to survive. It might sound cliche, but if anyone can make the “you are your own worst enemy” trope work, it’s Jordan Peele.
The Beach Bum– March 29th
Not going to lie, Matthew McConaughey’s last movie left a lot to be desired. However, he’s teaming up with one of the weirdest directors in Hollywood, Harmony Korine, to bring us a truly crazy looking movie. Now, Korine is the kind of director who is an acquired taste due to his unusual narrative approach he takes to filmmaking, but he always comes up with incredibly memorable concepts for his movies. This one follows a drug-addled McConaughey who sets out to write a novel. I’m not sure if it’s going to be a great film, but the trailer reminds me so much of Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas that I’m willing to give it a chance.
Dumbo– March 29th
I’ll admit upfront that I’m probably going to full-on ugly cry at some point during this movie. Dumbo is just another entry in Disney’s new schtick of dusting off animated classics and giving them the “live action” treatment. Personally, I feel like it’s a bit of a gimmick, but with Tim Burton directing I’m putting my cynicism aside and actually looking forward to seeing what he brings to this tale of a tiny elephant that defies all odds to soar like a bird. Of course, if Dumbo doesn’t work out, Disney also has Aladdin and Lion King reboots scheduled for this year. Let’s just hope that they don’t beat this new trend like a dead horse.
There are definitely a few other movies coming out this March that look like they have the potential to be pretty good, but for my money, the five above seem like they’re the most promising. I’ll be reviewing them as they hit theaters, so be sure to stop by to see if these flicks are worth the price of admission. Leave a comment below to let me know what other movies you’re excited for and I’ll be sure to prioritize reviews based on your responses.
