Streaming Services Are Adding a Lot this July!

Ever sit there and flip through everything Netflix, Hulu, and Prime have in their streaming libraries trying to figure out what to watch? Fear of missing out on something better got you indecisive as hell when it comes to binge-watching? Well, fear not. If you’re anything like me then you’ve probably watched most of what these streaming services have offered, so you’re plenty excited for a new month to bring you new flicks to enjoy. July has plenty to offer and kicks off a new feature here at Stars & Popcorn. Every month, we’ll take a look at everything new coming to streaming services and make special recommendations for you on what you can look forward to watching. This month features a few film franchises, plenty of original movies, and some great shows to binge watch!

Prime

Streaming
The Amazon original Zoe hits July 20th.
Burn Notice Season 1-7

If you’re looking for a mindless action series to binge watch, you’re in luck because Burn Notice will be streaming as soon as July hits. The series follows a spy who is blacklisted and has to take odd jobs appropriate to his skill set to make ends meet. It’s definitely a great show for those who love a bit of comedy to go with their explosions. Plue, it co-stars Bruce Campbell to help fill the hole Ash vs The Evil Dead might have left in your heart.

Blazing Saddles

One of the great comedy classics of all time. Blazing Saddles is a Mel Brooks masterpiece and if you haven’t seen it, then you’re going to get the chance to get yourself some culture by streaming it on Prime. It was from a very different time, so there are quite a few moments that might be a bit uncomfortable, but it was also a comedy that was well ahead of its time. Honestly, this is a piece of cinema history, so make sure you check it out.

The Jaws Franchise- July 9th

Rather than eat up three spots on this list (Jaws: The Revenge probably doesn’t deserve to be mentioned… Ever), I’m combining all four Jaws movies into one entry. These films have been floating around streaming services for a while, but now you’ll get a chance to binge-watch all of them at once on Prime. It’s a little something to save in your back pocket after you tear through everything else coming out on the first of the month. Just don’t watch them on your beach vacation.

Zoe– July 20th

Amazon has actually done a pretty good job when it comes to their original movies. While they might not be as prolific as Netflix, Zoe is their newest movie and it looks like quite an intriguing sci-fi romance. Ewan McGregor teams with Rashida Jones as two scientists researching romantic relationships with the help of an A.I. It promises to be a poignant film looking at the very nature of human relationships.

How To Talk To Girls At Parties– July 24th

This is one of the newer movies to transition from theaters to streaming services. In fact, as of a few weeks ago, it was still showing. The film is based on the Neil Gaiman novel of the same name but takes a few creative liberties. While I didn’t get a chance to catch it in theaters, I’m excited that I’ll be able to watch it in the privacy of my own home and I’ll be sure to post a review once I do.

Hulu

streaming
The Hulu original ‘Castle Rock’ hits on July 25th.
The Librarians: Complete Season 4

The Librarians is a series that recently won my heart. Fans of sci-fi fantasy series like Doctor Who will love this oddball adventure series and there are plenty of familiar faces rounding out the cast. If you’re looking for another great series to make time fly by, The Librarians is an excellent choice and one that will definitely remain at the top of my queue. If you haven’t given it a shot yet, give it the old three-episode try.

This is Spinal Tap

Another comedy classic is coming to streaming services this month. This classic mockumentary came out a long time before series like Parks and Rec or The Office tried to perfect it. It’s an old-school film that makes fun of everything rock ‘n roll about the 70’s, and there was a lot to mock back in those days. So, if you haven’t had a chance to see it, add this to your queue and turn the base up to 11!

Borg Vs. McEnroe– July 3rd

A few months ago this film was still making its rounds through the festival circuit (and eventually to theaters for a limited release) and it was getting pretty good buzz. I’m a bit surprised to see it streaming so soon on Hulu, but it is a movie I am definitely interested in seeing and will be marking it on my calendar. You don’t have to be a tennis fan to want to see one of the great sports rivalries of all time play out in the comfort of your own home.

Letterkenny: Complete Seasons 1 & 2- July 13th

Making the jump from Youtube to streaming services is the hilarious Letterkenny. So far everything I’ve seen from these comedians has left me cracking up and I wholeheartedly recommend it to anyone looking for a great comedy series to binge watch. I’m only familiar with the group’s Youtube channel, so I have no idea how these seasons will run, but if it’s even half as funny I’m definitely looking forward to it.

Castle Rock– July 25th

Hulu seems to have a special place in its heart for Stephen King. First, they ran the mini-series 11.22.63 (which is pretty if you haven’t seen it), now they’re launching the epic Castle Rock. From what I can tell the series is going to take place in Stephen King’s fictional universe and will feature a number of characters and themes from it. Every horror fan should be interested in seeing how this series will play out. I know I am.
