Netflix

Super Drags (November 9th)

Prime might have The Adventures of Priscilla, Queen of the Desert, and Hulu might have The Bird Cage, but Netflix is bringing an out of this world animated series about a trio of super-powered drag queens out to save the LGBT community from the intolerant *&$#s of the world. It was actually a Brazilian web series first, but it’s getting an English dub featuring some of the more famous drag queens working in the industry today.

She-Ra and the Princesses of Power (November 16th)

A lot of trolls screamed and shouted when the new She-Ra series was announced, which means I’m going to stream the hell out of it this month. Personally, I think it’s great that a show for young girls is being re-worked by a creative team consisting of women. After all, it’s pretty clear that there aren’t a lot of series out there for girls and I think it’s important that they have people who know what it’s actually like to be a little girl working on them. Fingers crossed that this makes all those whiny internet trolls eat their words.

The Ballad of Buster Scruggs (November 16th)

If The Big Lebowski doesn’t grab your attention because you’ve seen it one too many times, the good news is that the Coen Brothers have a new film coming to Netflix this month. The Ballad of Buster Scruggs looks to be a comedy, western musical, and that suits me just fine. It’s got an impressive cast, including Liam Neeson, James Franco, and Clancy Brown. If it comes close capturing the same wonder and whimsey as so many other of the Coen Brothers films, then I’m going to be a happy camper.

Mystery Science Theater 3000: The Gauntlet (November 22nd)

I grew up watching Mystery Science Theater 3000 as a kid and I was incredibly iffy when I heard it was coming back to Netflix last year with a whole new cast. While it might not have been as good as the originals, I was happy to have more of my favorite TV robots riffing bad movies. While I’m a bigger fan of Rifftrax these days (you can see a few of their movies on Prime) that doesn’t mean I won’t be sitting down to watch the new MST3K movies as soon as they come out.

Sick Note (November 23rd)

I always liked Ron in the Harry Potter movies, and I’m glad to see Rupert Grint coming to Netflix series about a man misdiagnosed with cancer. The series looks to be about a manipulative loser who gets the diagnosis and proceeds to milk it for all it’s worth. The thing is when he learns that he’s not really dying, that doesn’t stop him from still trying to reap the benefits of a terminal diagnosis. His lies lead to more lies and soon he finds himself in over his head and spiraling out of control. Here’s hoping this series is half as good as it looks on paper.

Those are just a few of the new series and movies to look forward to in November. Of course, I’ll be watching plenty of new movies and you can catch the micro-review on the Stars & Popcorn Instagram page. In the meantime though, let me know if there is a particular film you want me to check out this month and I’ll be happy to post a micro-review as soon as I can. Until next month, Happy Thanksgiving everyone and happy streaming.
