5 New Movies to Look Forward to In July 2018
Well folks, we’re officially half way through 2018 and there have been plenty of good new movies and plenty of bad ones. That being said, July has a lot to live up to after June, which had more than its fair share of pretty damn good movies. While July certainly has a few promising films in the pipeline, I’m not sure it’s going to be a spectacular month. Honestly, it wasn’t easy to even find 5 movies to get really excited for. This month’s list of new movies to look forward to has a bit of everything from superheroes to demons to super spies. That being said, I’m not sure that July is going to be the best month for new movies in 2018, but it sure as hell is going to be a lot better than January. That being said, here are 5 new movies to look forward to this July.
Ant-Man and the Wasp– July 6th, 2018
After the gut-wrenching twist in Avengers: Infinity War, it’s time for a light-hearted superhero that you can take the kids to see (sorry Deadpool 2). Ant-Man was a pretty good entry into the MCU and he really got a chance to shine during that epic fight scene in Captain America: Civil War. Now it’s time for him to get another chance at a solo film. Well, not exactly a solo film. This time around he’s getting a partner in the form of The Wasp (Hope van Dyne). Ant-man might have been a little wobbly his first time being a hero, but with the Wasp by his side there’s no telling what this duo will be capable. I don’t think this will be the best superhero movie of the year, but it should be a fun one.
Sorry to Bother You– July 6th, 2018
To be honest, I still have no idea what Sorry to Bother You is going to be about, but I’ve been psyched to see this ever since the first trailer hit the web a few months ago. It looks crazy in the best possible way and any movie with Lakieth Stanfield has my undivided attention (even if the Death Note movie sucked). Toss in the fact that I have a huge crush on Tessa Thompson after Thor: Ragnarok and this movie has guaranteed that I’m getting opening night tickets. This looks like an out of its mind comedy with lots of social commentary and I couldn’t be more excited. I’m hoping that this is going to be one of the better movies of 2018, so I’m keeping my fingers crossed hard that Sorry to Bother You lives up to my expectations.
The First Purge– July 6th, 2018
To be perfectly honest, The Purge movies are my guilty pleasure from the past few years. I know they aren’t spectacular, but I feel like there’s so much potential with this series, especially after Frank Grillo joined it in The Purge: Anarchy. This time around though Grillo isn’t joining the cast since this one is a prequel to all the others. Ever wonder how The Purge actually came to be? Well, this movie will hopefully have some answers for you. I’m kinda hoping this is the last movie entry into the franchise and the series moves over to cable television. Until then, I’m always down to watch society crumble on a Saturday night.
The Equalizer 2– July 20th, 2018
I’m a big fan of movies like John Wick and the Bourne franchise. There’s just something about watching a skilled contract killer work their magic on the big screen. Of course, Denzel Washington is one of the best. He earned his way into my heart with Man of Fire and since then the Equalizer movies look like the closest we’ll come to seeing him pick up that role again. The first Equalizer didn’t exactly knock my shoes off, but I’ve got a good feeling about this one after seeing the trailer for it. Sure, it looks like it’s going to be stuffed to the gills with every action cliche in the book. Then again, this is a list of new movies to look forward to. Not new movies that are going to actually be good.
Mission: Impossible- Fallout- July 27th, 2018
Mission Impossible has really upped its game over the past few movies in the franchise. Ever since the third entry, they just keep getting better and better. That’s why I can’t wait to see Fallout. Not only is it going to have Tom Cruise doing what he does best, but it’s also got Henry Cavill for him to go toe-to-toe with. I’m not going to lie, when I saw the two of them square off in the trailer I knew that I could not wait to see this flick. Of all the new movies coming out this month, I feel like Mission Impossible is guaranteed to give audiences exactly what they want. Personally, I think Fallout is going to be the first really great movie of the second half of 2018. I’m just going to have to wait and see though.
There you have it, 5 new movies to look forward to this July. Like I said before, there were some slim pickins when it came to choices for this month, plenty of movies didn’t get a chance to make this list. However, I feel like these 5 movies will certainly offer a lot of movie fans plenty to look forward to over the upcoming month. So, what movie are you looking forward to the most this month?
