Versus Mode: Battle of the Twin Films!

Snow White and the Huntsman vs Mirror Mirror

(2012)

Battle of the bed ridden princesses!

The Show-Down: Live-action fairytale films aren’t exactly rare these days, but back in 2012 that was a different story. The fact that two would be released in the same year was unheard of (Disney has since changed that). The fact that they would be new takes on the same classic story is simply crazy. So, which of these twin films told the tale better?

Winner: Snow White and the Huntsman

Charlize Theron is bae, but she also happens to be the winner of this battle thanks to her performance as the much more menacing evil witch.

Murder at 1600 vs Absolute Power

(1997)

Battle of the botched cover-ups!

The Show-Down: Another White House related battle of the twin films. This time instead of rom-coms we have thrillers centered around murders that lead directly to conspiracies at the highest levels of power in the White House. One is told from the police’s perspective, while the other features a master thief as the protagonist.

Winner: Absolute Power

Not only is Clint Eastwood a good actor, but he’s also a pretty talented director as well. Despite not being one of his best works, Absolute Power is definitely the winner here.

Vice Versa vs Big vs 18 Again!

(1988)

Battle of the body swaps!

The Show-Down: Looks like we have our first twin films battle royale! Not sure if triplet films is a term or not, but we have a special case here from 1988. At their core, Vice Versa, Big, and 18 Again!, are all body-swap movies featuring male characters. They all differ a bit, but 3 body swap movies in one year caught my attention and I decided to pit them all against each other.

Winner: Big

Tom Hanks has been America’s sweetheart for as long as I can remember. It’s impossible not to love him in everything he does, and one of his greatest roles was as the adult version of Josh. This fight doesn’t even get to the second round. Big is the clear winner.

eXistenZ vs The Thirteenth Floor vs The Matrix

(1999)

Battle of the binary!

The Show-Down: The future of technology was all the rage at the end of the last millennium, and everyone thought that virtual reality would be the next big thing. So, right before Y2K, three films featuring brilliantly detailed virtual worlds with a warning to audiences about the dangers of technology progressing too quickly and the potential of losing touch with reality.

Winner: The Matrix

I know I already said Charlize Theron was bae, but so is Keanu Reeves. Few films have revolutionized cinema and The Matrix is one of them. Its impact is still being seen on the big screen even today, making it the clear victor here.
